Grocery & Frozen
The grocery industry is one of the most challenging from a logistics perspective. Due to the high volume of products needed daily, distribution centers are quite labor intensive. And with the workforce demand far exceeding the availability of qualified workers in the grocery market, automated solutions are critical to accurate, aisle friendly order fulfillment and expeditious delivery.
SCHAEFER has worked with grocery retailers throughout the world to provide automated logistic solutions that create stable, densely stacked pallets that are store friendly and optimize freight delivery. In return, SCHAEFER’s automated systems help our customers drive down their cost per case handled, eliminate the gap in workforce availability, and increase profit margins.
Award Winning Distribution Center Modernization for Grocery Retailer
SSI SCHAEFER has partnered with C&S Wholesale Grocers, one of the largest grocery wholesalers in the United States, to update the intralogistics of ES3’s distribution center utilizing the SCHAEFER Case Picking (SCP) System. The multi-award winning solution provides an optimized work environment due to the uniformity and close proximity of the automated processes from goods receiving to goods shipping.
In addition to the automation of the warehouse processes, the integrated automation of the order-related case pickings and the shipping preparation of the deliveries play a significant factor in the success of this extraordinary project. The core of this system is the combination of the SCHAEFER Case Picking (SCP) concept and the SCHAEFER Tray System (STS).
The result is an automated distribution center which offers nearly 90,000 tray storage positions in its High-Bay Warehouse and enables a throughput of more than 100,000 boxes. Its material flows and commissioning positions are distributed and separated on three building levels. With this solution, SSI SCHAEFER has a set a new standard for the intralogistics of the grocery retailer in the American market.
